What are the certification levels?

Automation Anywhere offers Essentials, Advanced and Certified Master RPA Professional certifications on its Automation 360 platform, plus an AI Automation Engineer certification. Essentials checks that you know the product suite, can pick processes worth automating and can build basic bots. Advanced goes further, into action packages, resilient automations and solving real business problems. Master tests whether you can build complex bots from case studies, and part of it is graded on bots you actually build.

The AI Automation Engineer Certification is aimed at designing, building and governing agentic AI and automation solutions. The full-length course for it ends in a capstone, a 105-minute exam and a submitted agentic solution. The AI Automation Engineer assessment costs $250, and no discounts are offered. The certification is valid for one year, and one free renewal adds a second year.

Exam format and fees for each level

Essentials is 40 multiple-choice questions in one hour, taken in one sitting, with an 80% pass mark. The Essentials certification is free. Advanced costs $80, Master costs $130 and the AI Automation Engineer assessment costs $250. Advanced is 60 multiple-choice questions in two hours, needs 80%, and its $80 fee buys two attempts. Partners can take a partner-only version of Advanced for free.

Master runs in two steps. You first pass 50 multiple-choice questions in 1 hour 45 minutes at 80%. You are then given three bot use cases and have two weeks to submit working bots. Master costs $130, gives you two tries at the quiz and one at the bots, and is offered in English only. Essentials and Advanced are offered in English, Japanese, Spanish and Portuguese.

Validity, renewal and retakes

Advanced and Master certifications stay valid for two years from the issue date. You can take a shorter renewal exam up to 45 days before your certification expires. The Advanced renewal is 40 questions in 60 minutes and costs $50. The Master renewal is 35 questions in 60 minutes plus one bot, and costs $80. You get one attempt at a renewal. If you let a certification lapse, you have to take the full exam again. The AI Automation Engineer certification lasts one year, and one free renewal assessment extends it by another year.

If you use up your attempts and still fail, you wait 30 days and pay the full fee again. If the grader flags your Master bots as copied and a reviewer agrees, you are banned from Master for a year, you lose your fees and your certifications are cancelled.

Who each certification suits

Essentials is for students, faculty and people new to Automation Anywhere who want proof that they know the basics. Advanced is for working developers who build Automation 360 bots, and holding it before Master is encouraged. Master is for experienced bot developers who want proof that they can deliver complete, secure automations. The AI Automation Engineer track is for developers moving from rule-based RPA into agentic automation on the same platform.

These credentials only cover one vendor's platform. They help most with employers and consultancies that already run Automation Anywhere. They do not get anyone hired by themselves, and a portfolio of working bots counts for as much as the badge does.

Pay

USD a year, before tax. US figures from BLS OEWS May 2025 for software developers, moved to 2026 with the Employment Cost Index. BLS has no RPA series, so this is the closest match, and it covers all software developers, not RPA specialists alone.
