What the certification covers

Salesforce wrote this exam for administrators, developers and architects who design prompt templates and build agents in Agentforce. It tests whether you can build agents that reason and take actions inside Salesforce and across outside channels. In practice that means grounding prompts in Prompt Builder, pulling data in through Data 360, and taking an agent from testing in a sandbox through to production.

The largest block is AI Agents at 35%. It covers topics, actions, Agent Script, deterministic controls such as filters and variables, connecting agents to channels, and the Agent API. Prompt Engineering and Data 360 Fundamentals are 20% each. Testing, Deployment and Maintenance gets 10%, Governance and Observability gets 10%, and Multi-Agent Orchestration, which includes MCP and A2A, gets 5%.

Exam rules and cost

According to Salesforce's exam guide, you get 60 scored multiple-choice questions plus up to five unscored ones, mixed in at random. You have 105 minutes and need 72% to pass. The current question set matches the Spring '26 release. You can sit the exam at a testing center or with an online proctor. You can't use notes or reference material, and the exam is offered in English, French and Japanese.

Registration costs USD 200 (JPY 30,000) and a retake costs USD 100 (JPY 15,000), plus local taxes. For a while Salesforce offered the exam free under its AI for All initiative, and its partner FAQ said that offer ran through December 2025. The current exam guide lists the USD 200 fee. Budget for it.

Who it suits, and what it won't do

Salesforce says a typical successful candidate has about one year of hands-on platform configuration, including standard objects and Data 360, and has built agents in Agentforce Agent Builder and templates in Prompt Builder. The exam does not expect you to code in Apex or Python, fine-tune large language models or understand transformer architecture. That makes it a declarative, configuration-focused credential.

It suits Salesforce admins, app builders and consultants whose employers or clients are rolling out Agentforce. It shows you know one vendor's agent tooling. It is weaker evidence for general AI engineering roles that center on Python, model APIs or custom agent frameworks. Treat it as a signal that supports hands-on experience. No certification gets anyone hired on its own.

How it fits with other Salesforce AI credentials

The entry-level Salesforce Certified AI Associate is gone. Its last exam date was May 1, 2025, and it was retired on February 2, 2026. Holders now see it marked Retired on their profiles. Salesforce points people to two replacements: Agentblazer Status, a free Trailhead recognition program with Champion, Innovator and Legend levels, and the Agentforce Specialist certification.

Salesforce recommends the Platform Administrator and Platform App Builder certifications before this exam, though neither is required. The Agentforce Service Consultant exam is a separate certification for customer service implementations. It does require Platform Administrator, and it asks for a 78% passing score. Some Salesforce pages still use the older name, AI Specialist.

Are there prerequisites?

No certification is required to sit the exam. Salesforce recommends Platform Administrator and Platform App Builder, plus about a year of hands-on platform experience that includes Data 360.

How do I keep the certification active?
