What certifications does NVIDIA offer?
NVIDIA's certification page sorts its exams into four tracks: AI Infrastructure, Data Science, Generative AI, and Simulation and Physical AI. Each track has two levels. NVIDIA-Certified Associate exams carry an NCA code and test foundations. NVIDIA-Certified Professional exams carry an NCP code and are described as intermediate-level credentials. In November 2026 NVIDIA was promoting an updated certification framework that maps credentials to technical roles across five layers of the AI stack. The exam list may shift, so confirm the code on NVIDIA's page before you book.
The generative AI track is the one most relevant to machine learning and AI engineers. It has three Associate exams: Generative AI LLMs (NCA-GENL), Generative AI Multimodal (NCA-GENM), and AI Models and Application Development (NCA-AMAD). It has two Professional exams: Generative AI LLMs (NCP-GENL) and Agentic AI (NCP-AAI). The Data Science track lists an Accelerated Data Science Professional exam, priced at $200 for two hours, which covers GPU-accelerated tools and libraries for data science workflows.
Generative AI exams in detail
NCA-GENL is the entry exam. It costs $125, runs one hour, has 50 to 60 multiple-choice questions, and is in English. You take it online with a remote proctor. NVIDIA asks only for a basic understanding of generative AI and LLMs. The blueprint gives 30% to core machine learning and AI knowledge, 24% to software development, 22% to experimentation, 14% to data analysis and visualization, and 10% to trustworthy AI. If you pass, you get a digital badge and can download a certificate.
NCA-GENM covers systems that combine text, image and audio. NCA-AMAD covers building, customizing, deploying and evaluating models and applications on NVIDIA's platform, including retrieval pipelines, inference optimization and agentic systems. Both cost $125 and run one hour. At Professional level, NCP-GENL tests designing, training and optimizing LLMs with distributed training and fine-tuning. NCP-AAI tests building and governing multi-agent systems. Each is $200, runs 120 minutes and has 60 to 70 questions.
Infrastructure exams in detail
The infrastructure track suits people who run GPU clusters. NCA-AIIO is the entry exam on AI computing for infrastructure and operations. It costs $125 and runs one hour. NCP-AII tests deploying, configuring and validating NVIDIA AI infrastructure. It costs $400, runs two hours, has 70 to 75 questions, and is scored pass/fail. NCP-AI Rack and Interconnect (NCP-ARI) covers installing, cabling and connecting hardware. It also costs $400 for two hours.
NCP-AIO costs $500. In its 120-minute session you answer 30 multiple-choice questions and complete 3 hands-on lab exercises. NVIDIA expects you to work comfortably at a Linux command line on live clusters that run Slurm and Kubernetes. It lists two to three years of data center operations on NVIDIA hardware as a prerequisite. The US page lists NCP-AI Networking (NCP-AIN) at $500 for two hours. NVIDIA's European page shows $400, so check the price in your region.
Who each level helps
An Associate exam gives a software engineer, data analyst or student a structured syllabus to study and a badge that shows they have covered generative AI basics. NVIDIA describes the NCA-GENL candidate as an associate developer who helps build, train, test and debug generative AI LLM systems as part of a team. Professional exams are for people who already do the work. NCP-GENL and NCP-AAI fit engineers who train, fine-tune or build agent systems. The NCP infrastructure exams fit platform and data center engineers. No certification guarantees a job offer. In interviews, shipped projects and real experience still count for more.
Pay
USD a year, before tax. These are US figures. The BLS rows come from BLS OEWS May 2025, moved to 2026 with the Employment Cost Index. They use the software developers series, which is the nearest match and covers the whole occupation, not ML specialists alone. The job ad rows are midpoints of base pay from 139 live AutomationRoles.ai ads at 56 employers on 5 November 2026. Those ads lean toward large AI and tech employers and leave out stock and bonus. Neither source measures what a certification adds to pay. Refer to the Machine Learning Engineers salary guide for figures from live adverts.
What you need
- Associate prerequisiteFor NCA-GENL, NVIDIA asks only for a basic understanding of generative AI and large language models. NVIDIA publishes no degree requirement for the exam.
- Professional experienceSome Professional exams list work experience. NCP-AIO, for example, expects two to three years of data center operations on NVIDIA hardware.
- Exam formatYou take the exams online with a remote proctor, and you register through Certiverse. NCA-GENL is offered in English.
- Hands-on skillsNCP-AIO includes live lab tasks that you complete inside the exam time. You need to be comfortable with the Linux command line, Slurm and Kubernetes.
- Validity and renewalEach certification lasts two years from the date it is issued. To recertify, you retake the exam.
- CostExam fees run from $125 for Associate exams to $500 for NCP-AIO. Optional NVIDIA courses tied to the blueprints cost extra. Self-paced courses start at $30, and instructor-led workshops cost $500.
How to get there
- Week 1Pick a trackIf you build models and LLM apps, choose generative AI. If you run GPU clusters, choose infrastructure.
- Weeks 1-6Study the blueprintRead the exam's topic weights and study guide. Take any of the mapped NVIDIA courses that cover gaps in what you know.
- Month 2Take an Associate examBook NCA-GENL, NCA-AMAD, NCA-GENM or NCA-AIIO. Each costs $125 and runs one hour.
- Year 1-2Build real experienceShip fine-tuning, RAG, agent or cluster work at your job or in public projects before you try a Professional exam.
- Year 1-3Take a Professional examPick NCP-GENL or NCP-AAI ($200 each), or an infrastructure NCP ($400 to $500).
- Every 2 yearsRecertifyRetake the exam before the two-year validity runs out.

See all →Questions people ask
How much does an NVIDIA certification exam cost?
Associate exams cost $125. Professional exams cost $200 for NCP-GENL, NCP-AAI and the Accelerated Data Science exam, $400 for NCP-AII and NCP-ARI, and $500 for NCP-AIO. NVIDIA's US page lists NCP-AIN at $500.
How long is an NVIDIA certification valid?
Each NVIDIA certification is valid for two years from the date it is issued. To recertify, you retake the exam.
Which NVIDIA certification should a machine learning engineer take first?
NCA-GENL is a common starting point. It costs $125 and runs one hour, and NVIDIA pitches it at associate developers who work on generative AI LLM systems. NCA-AMAD is another option if your work centers on retrieval pipelines, inference optimization and agentic applications.
Are NVIDIA exams taken online?
Yes. NVIDIA's exam pages say the exams are online and proctored remotely. You register through Certiverse.
Do the Professional exams include hands-on labs?
NCP-AIO does. Its 120-minute session includes 30 multiple-choice questions and 3 hands-on lab exercises on live clusters. The NCP-GENL and NCP-AAI pages describe question-based exams of 60 to 70 questions.
Will an NVIDIA certification get me hired?
No certification guarantees a job. It shows you studied a defined syllabus on NVIDIA's platform, which can help when you have little work history. Hiring managers usually weigh shipped projects and experience more heavily.
