Senior AI Data Scientist (Generative AI & Machine Learning)

As a Senior Data Scientist, you will drive AI initiatives, using advanced analytics, machine learning, and data-driven insights to enhance operational efficiency and improve decision-making. You will support the deployment of AI solutions across the organization, collaborate with multi-functional teams, and mentor junior data scientists to uphold Michelin's commitment to innovation and excellence.
Role Details
Location: Greenville, SC, situated approximately halfway between Charlotte, North Carolina and Atlanta, Georgia
Contract: Long-term with no defined end date. Conversion to hire (CTH) possible after 6 months but not guaranteed
Work Schedule: Normal work hours are 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday
Remote Work: Hybrid, 3 days per week must be on-site in Greenville, SC. Subject to change
Travel: Significant travel for this role is not expected
Work Status: Must be authorized to work in the U.S. (US Citizen preferred or permanent resident Green Card)
Customers: Internal and external business partners
Team Size: Varies depending on projects and squads involved
Day-to-Day Responsibilities
- Develop and implement machine learning models and algorithms
- Partner with diverse functional groups to identify business needs and translate them into data-driven solutions
- Analyze large datasets to extract actionable insights and support decision-making
- Design and conduct experiments to validate model performance and improve operational processes
- Monitor and maintain AI models in production, ensuring they operate effectively and efficiently
- Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the development of standard processes in data science and AI Ops

Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Data Science, Computer Science, Statistics, or a related field (Master's degree or Ph.D. preferred)
- 5+ years of Data Science experience focused on AI and machine learning
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, business acumen, and communication skills
- Proficiency in Python, PySpark, Pandas, and NumPy
- Hands-on experience developing machine learning and Generative AI solutions, including LLMs, chatbots, and autonomous AI agents using tools such as Scikit-learn, Power BI, Streamlit, LangChain, LangGraph, and MCP
- Experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., Azure), big data technologies (e.g., Spark), and containerization/orchestration tools (e.g., Kubernetes)

- Proven success leveraging large and diverse datasets to solve complex business challenges and deliver measurable business impact
- Strong ability to communicate technical concepts to business stakeholders, collaborate across cross-functional teams, and lead projects from concept through execution
- Experience mentoring and developing junior data scientists and analysts while balancing technical excellence with strategic business objectives
