Lead Machine Learning Engineer

About the role

Lead the central machine learning engineering team within the business unit Leven & Pensioen (L&P). This engineering team builds and maintains the L&P Data Science Platform, a service for data scientists within L&P featuring a datalab environment and a model hosting environment.

Responsibilities

• Work closely with colleagues in the Data & AI team, IT colleagues and business stakeholders to develop the best-fitting AI solutions, with constant attention to scalability and sustainability of AI systems
• Prioritize and monitor work progress so that data science teams and the business know when to expect releases
• Inspire colleagues with your clear vision on the future of software engineering and AI, and provide direction for AI deployment
• Support colleagues in developing optimal AI solutions and in their own development
• Support colleagues with your knowledge of software engineering and associated life-cycle so that AI solutions can be delivered faster, better and responsibly to production

What we offer

• Salary between €7,087 and €9,449 based on 40 hours, depending on your knowledge and experience

What you bring

You are a driving force in the sustainable and scalable implementation of AI solutions. You enjoy discussing with engineers, architects, data scientists and business stakeholders to translate challenges and problems into system designs and implementations. You pay attention to the balance between delivering measurable value and minimizing technical debt, and can lead colleagues in this by setting priorities. With your positively critical thinking, you continuously contribute to the further development of the Data & AI team.

Furthermore, you have:

• University-level work and thinking level
• Minimum 7 years of experience as a software engineer
• Proven track record in delivering AI solutions that have made an impact, including the associated life-cycle. You know what it is like to maintain an AI solution in operation
• Strong communication skills: you can bring stakeholders at all levels along in your story and can advise and inspire them. You also have the ability to translate stakeholder questions and problems into new features and prioritize them based on context & value
• Experience leading a team: organizing and prioritizing work, coordinating with stakeholders and establishing roadmaps
• Experience in substantive coaching of software engineers
• Proficiency in Python, Databricks, GIT, CICD, Docker, Public Cloud Services (Azure/AWS), Infrastructure as Code (Bicep, Terraform), DevOps, data engineering and building APIs
• Knowledge of, and experience with, AI and ML process standards such as training, testing, validation, prompting, etc.
• Knowledge of risks and security within IT and software engineering
• Experience in financial services is a plus
