AI Engineer (m/w/d) - München oder Mobile Office

Your Tasks

• Own the implementation and technical direction of the Conversational AI solution (KIRA) and develop it into a modular, future-proof AI platform for gesund.de
• Drive delivery forward, lead the Engineering Team, and ensure high-quality German-language conversation experiences — while building the architectural foundation for broader AI capabilities across the entire product family
• As AI Engineer (m/w/d), take on technical leadership of a five-person cross-functional AI Team by leading the team, setting technical standards, removing obstacles, and ensuring delivery quality
• Own roadmap implementation, including backlog refinement, sprint planning, and cross-functional stakeholder coordination
• Design and own the technical architecture of the Conversational AI solution, including integration with backend systems and third-party AI platforms
• Work hands-on on prompt engineering, orchestration design, and evaluation — with special focus on the quality of German-language conversations
• Define and implement standards for prompting, prompt versioning, evaluation, and quality assurance
• Develop a scalable AI architecture (e.g. orchestration, APIs, RAG patterns, monitoring, and logging)
• Make build-vs-buy decisions for AI components and integrations
• Contribute to the technical roadmap for expanding AI capabilities across the gesund.de product family
• Work closely with the Product Owner to align technical implementation and product vision optimally

Your Profile

Required Skills and Experience

• Strong hands-on experience with agentic AI/GenAI systems (e.g. LLM architectures and orchestration frameworks)
• Deep prompt engineering skills, ideally in the German-language context
• Experience designing and building scalable software architectures and APIs
• Proven track record owning delivery, e.g. through roadmap implementation, backlog management, and sprint cadence
• You work as a player-coach: you write code yourself while also setting technical and delivery direction
• You can translate product requirements into robust technical solutions
• Strong communication skills and ability to function as a bridge between product, engineering, and business
• German language skills at native speaker level or at least C1 proficiency (required)
• Experience with voice bots or Conversational AI is a plus, but not a must

Nice to Have

• Experience with evaluation frameworks for LLM outputs
• Familiarity with RAG patterns, vector databases, and retrieval architectures
• Background in Health Tech or regulated environments
• Prior experience leading small cross-functional teams (5–8 people)
• Experience with conversation analytics, e.g. defining AI-specific KPIs (such as resolution rate, containment, CSAT), identifying error patterns, and deriving concrete product improvements from data
