Join our young and enthusiastic Data Science Lab team as an AI (Platform) Engineer. You will be part of the AI Excellence Center, a team of more than 30 highly educated and energetic professionals. Within our AI community, you work closely with business stakeholders, domain experts, data engineers, software engineers, mathematicians and data scientists.
Together we explore, develop and implement the latest Generative AI technologies and help KPN transform into a fully AI-driven organization.
About the role
As an AI (Platform) Engineer, you play a key role in developing reusable building blocks that enable teams across the organization to build and scale Generative AI applications.
Using the Microsoft Azure cloud platform and the latest AI technologies, you design and implement secure, scalable, reliable and production-ready solutions.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain our central GenAI Gateway (LLM Gateway) on Azure, integrating both OpenAI and non-OpenAI models, such as Anthropic Claude, Mistral and Llama
- Manage the full lifecycle of deployed Large Language Models (LLMs)
- Design and implement CI/CD pipelines in Azure DevOps for automated deployments and testing
- Contribute to the prioritization and strategic direction of the GenAI Lab roadmap
- Operationalize and integrate AI capabilities within business processes, IT systems and data platforms
- Work intensively with team members, domain experts and business stakeholders to design and implement the most effective solutions
Required qualifications
- Minimum 5 years of experience as an AI/ML Engineer, Cloud Engineer or similar role
- Master's degree in a quantitative field, such as Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Science or comparable discipline
- Excellent Python skills for developing GenAI applications and automation solutions
- Demonstrable experience with Microsoft Azure cloud services
- Expertise in Infrastructure as Code (IaC) using Terraform, Bicep or ARM templates
- Experience developing and managing production-ready GenAI solutions
- Knowledge of vector databases and Azure AI Search
- Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker and Kubernetes (AKS)
- In-depth knowledge of Azure DevOps for CI/CD, version control and release management
- Thorough knowledge of software engineering best practices, including coding standards, code reviews, testing, security and observability
Preferred qualifications
- Practical experience implementing and managing multiple LLM providers, including OpenAI, Anthropic Claude, Azure OpenAI and open-source models
- Experience with LLM Gateway architectures and API management at scale
- Familiarity with API design patterns such as REST, streaming APIs and WebSockets, as well as asynchronous processing via message queues and event-driven architectures
- Knowledge of AI governance, monitoring and observability solutions such as Azure Monitor, Application Insights, Dataiku, LangSmith or Openlayer
- Experience with LangChain and other orchestration frameworks for Generative AI
- Knowledge of semantic caching and optimization techniques for LLM applications
- Experience with authentication and authorization mechanisms such as OAuth2, API Keys and Azure Active Directory

- Gross monthly salary: minimum €5,190 and maximum €7,803 depending on your work experience, based on 40 hours plus 8% holiday allowance
